Each Step :: A Mother's Day Special

This Sunday is Mother's Day in the US and so we're having a few special blog posts from some of our Reece's Rainbow mothers! There is a button too if you'd like!

Nancy Smith, Reece's Rainbow Mother of Vanya

I feel so incredibly blessed to be Vanya's mother, to wake up each morning to his sweet little smile. He has been with us for almost 10 months and he has taught me so much about myself as a mother and about the strength of the human spirit. I think one of the best things about being the mother of a child with special needs is learning to celebrate and treasure the small victories, to see how each step along the way means so much. To think that there are other children like Vanya who will not have the chance to live a life outside an institution is heartbreaking.

Nancy would like to share a little girl who is one of our Waiting Children.

She would love for her to have a Mother next Mother's Day!

We are so happy to have some updated pictures of Mandy! She was born with multiple skeletal anomalies, including fused/webbed hands.
From her medical records:

syndactyly of hands and feet

steeple tower head

psychological and motor delay

patent foramen ovale

secondary defect of interatrial septum

Her current weight is 9 kg 800 g; height is 77 cm.

The girl is smiling, laughing. She reaches for toys. She walks in baby-jumper.    Doctors consider that surgery may help to separate her fingers on the hands. They give a positive prognosis regarding her mental development. More photos are available.
