March 21st was chosen by Down Syndrome International (DSI) to mark World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) with the inaugural day being launched in Singapore in 2006.The date (21st day of 3rd month) was chosen to signify the uniqueness of Down syndrome in the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome.
All DSI members, DS related organizations and individuals worldwide are encouraged to observe World Down Syndrome Day together.
