Being RIGHT when nobody is LEFT

There are people in our culture of death who consider pro-lifers to be far RIGHT. When it comes to the issue of protecting the most vulnerable members of our society and recognizing the priceless gift each human being from our Creator is, then I have to agree that the position is far RIGHT meaning CORRECT!

I write and speak frequently about the silent eugenic movement occurring against children diagnosed prenatally with Down syndrome, and I know with absolute certainty that I am RIGHT when it comes to this topic. Politics plays no role at all when it comes to the identifying, targeting and termination of 90%+ of a unique, beautiful group of human beings. It is an issue that should be uniting the country and world into a strong voice that says "NOT RIGHT" to this quiet genocide.

I see the unconditional love, goodness, innocence and Light my 8 year old daughter Chloe brings into this dark world each day, and her incorruptible spirit is something we all should be striving to incorporate into every aspect of our lives. Chloe has traits that I can only describe as "Angelic" which would make her the RIGHT WING to be connected to! Being RIGHT on this issue leads me to ask the question who will be LEFT as genetic screenings advance at a very rapid pace?

Once children with Down syndrome are eliminated and new genetic codes are unlocked will prenatal testing allow us to identify, target and terminate children with Autism, depression, ADHD, obesity, shortness, red hair, brown eyes, freckles, and the list goes on until nobody is LEFT.

What if a genetic code for homosexuality were unlocked and used to prenatally eliminate 90%+ of these individuals? Would there be screams from the LEFT yelling that this is not RIGHT — I hope so! When the Holocaust started there were not enough strong voices shouting what was RIGHT, and very quickly nobody was LEFT to stop the slaughter of millions of priceless human beings.

Don't be LEFT out when it comes to saying what is RIGHT, and we need your loud Voice now more than ever to wake up a lost world that fails to recognize the greatest gift and resource God has given us — Human Life.

I am the father of a beautiful daughter who has Down syndrome, and she has been a priceless Blessing to our family and community.

When I became aware of the 90+% abortion rate for children diagnosed with Down syndrome in the womb, I literally could not sleep at night. In early August 2008, I had a disturbing dream about people with disabilities being exterminated, and it woke me up at 2:15AM. After praying I came up with the name SADSIN (Stop Aborting Down Syndrome Individuals Now).

I have since embarked on a mission to make sure people are aware of this genocide. I want people to see the beautiful faces of our kids and realize the priceless Blessings and Gifts they are to a society that has lost focus.

Boy, Born April 8, 2001
Heath is a sweet little boy who desperately needs a family.
Heath is a ten year old boy with Down Syndrome. He is tiny in stature. His feet hardly reach the edge of his shared wheelchair. Because of his age, he has already been transferred from the stimulating environment of his baby house to a dull and underfunded mental institute for boys ages 6-18. He is no longer the youngest boy in his group, but he is certainly among the smallest.
Heath is not a recent transfer. He has lived in the stifling boredom of institution life for a long time. He has lost the vivacity of life at the baby houses. In his three years at the institute, he has been given nothing of his own. He has not seen a book or a toy. He has never been gathered into anyone's loving arms. He is a very lonely little fellow in desperate need of love and comfort.
We have few other details on Heath. He has been seen in a wheelchair, so he may not be able to walk. We don’t know if or how well he talks, or any other details on his medical condition. We do know that he is a cute, chubby-cheeked, dirty and neglected lonely little lost boy who needs a mother more than almost anyone else in the world.

We are so thankful for all of your gifts and your gift of advocacy! The 2011 Angel Tree Warriors were nothing short of amazing. They redefined the term 'warrior' and we've been calling them heroes since the Angel Tree ended.

We will be announcing the totals for the Angel Tree some time in the next week or so, once the final checks are all in, and receipts will be out by the 31st. We are excited to share those totals with you, including the total for the Angel Tree Dollars! These were a huge hit and I can't wait to share just how much in donations those brought in! If you received any, be sure you get the child selected by the 15th of January! Any that remain unclaimed after that will be put into the Voice of Hope's Angel Tree fund.

We were so blessed in the final week of the Angel Tree to be featured in a story presented by ABC along with the Gates Foundation on ABC World News Tonight with Diane Sawyer. That, along with the amazing fight our warriors fought to bring our angels to their Angel Tree goal, means that their faces were seen by far more than in past years. Our warriors flooded facebook the last day of the angel tree!

This is fantastic for the children and we've already seen some of the result of that with how many inquiries we're now receiving. This is what it is all about, people! Finding families for these beautiful children with Down syndrome and other special needs, and helping those families to raise the funds to help with the costs of their adoption! What a blessing our donors and warriors are to these children!

The goal of the Angel Tree is to raise $1000 or more as an adoption grant for each waiting child with Down syndrome listed below. Ornaments are only available for the children listed on the Angel Tree page.

Boy, born October 2003
Alan has a cleft palate and hydrocephalus, as well as mild mental retardation. This little boy does not have a moustache, the children were eating a snack just before their pictures were taken However, he does show strong facial features of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, and the cleft palate and hydrocehalus are common conditions associated with this syndrome. Be sure to research FAS thoroughly so you are prepared for the challenges that come with this special need.

URGENT: This is a new orphanage for us to work with. These children are older, and will be transferred at the end of summer and it will be extremely hard to adopt them once they are transferred. If you are considering this child, please do not delay!

Giving Thanks

Reece's Rainbow has much for which to be thankful, not just this year, but every year. We don't talk about the 500+ orphans who are now in families at home celebrating Thanksgiving this year without fully realising how many people it took to help those children get home.

The advocates for their tireless warrioring on the children's behalf, the hours and hours of fundraising, the gifts from people to use for those fundraisers, the many many thousands of people who have donated their time and their monetary support over the years and the many faithful warriors who battle on their knees in prayer for these children. It is an army when you consider all of the people who have brought those 500+ children into families to be Orphans No More.

So, we thank you, we thank you for all of your support of Reece's Rainbow and the children and families that make up that rainbow.

In honour of Thanksgiving and National Adoption Month we are going to share with you two families who's lives have been forever changed due to adoption and so I hope you enjoy their stories of thanksgiving.

We would also ask that as you reflect today on all that you are Thankful for that you might consider Giving the gift of a family to one or more of the many children with Down syndrome who are in need of a family by visiting the Christmas Angel Tree and donating. There are still many who need to reach their Angel Tree goal of $1000 and we know that every little bit helps them to reach that!

On December 13, 2007 our lives were forever changed when we received a phone call that there was a 2 1/2 month old baby that had been shaken and was in need of a loving foster home. We were vacationing at Disneyland at the time and decided to cut the vacation short so we could go and pick her up the next day.

This precious child lived with us for 2 years as our foster daughter but on April 22, 2010 she became our forever daughter after her birth parents decided that it would be in her best interest to continue to live with us.

Because of the joy we experienced by bringing this sweet little girl into our family we decided to spend the whole month of November (Adoption Awareness Month) advocating for foster care children. It was during this time we stumbled upon a blog that was talking about Reece's Rainbow and all the sweet orphans that needed home.

That is when we feel in love with this little girl.

And we are excited that next year she will no longer be an orphan but will be celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas with us as a member of our family.

Quinton's Family: Brian and Carol Miller

Just one year ago, I was silently aching inside. There was avoid in my heart that I was starting to think would never be filled. My husbandand I had been married for several years and unable to conceive. It seemed asif every time I turned around, another one of my friends was pregnant. It wasnearly impossible to be happy for them when I was consumed by my own sadness.Just when things seemed hopeless, something amazing happened. I was introducedto Reece’s Rainbow.

Fast forward one year and my heart is completely healed, mymarriage is stronger, and I am loving my new son with an intensity that I neverknew existed. In July of 2011, we brought our son, Quinton home from Ukraine.He is the absolute light of my life. Not a day goes by that I don’t laugh,smile, and love a little more than I did the day before. Thanksgiving this yearhas taken on a new meaning for me. Words cannot describe the thankfulness Ifeel in my heart for my baby boy and everyone who was a part of us bringing himhome. I thank God every day for Quinton and his precious life. Instead ofsilently aching inside, now I am beaming with joy. Without him, I don’t knowwhere I would be. I am so thankful for adoption and thankful for the blessingof my son.

SIGNIFICANT RISK, PLEASE ADOPT ME SOON!!

Look at this little princess! She is already 6 and facing the institution very soon!!!

Lorie was born with a spinal hernia and CP, leaving her with weak muscles and limbs. The hernia was surgically removed, and she is walking with help now! She does have some strabismus, but is such a gentle and happy child! She is blessed to still be at the baby house, but will be transferred soon.

From an adoptive family who visited with her in June 2011: "She was walking using a walker, I walked up and talked to her and she held my hand and smiled at us. Dariya then walked up and she and Lorie held hands for a bit. When we walked away we said paka and she smiled and waved. Bless her, she needs a family. We learned that this baby house is up to 6 for spec needs so she probably will be here until next year since she just turned 6. Her feet turned in, she would definitely benefit from having braces and PT. The caregiver told us she didn't speak but, she understood us and was sweet."

Annual Christmas Angel Tree

Running from November 1-December 31 each year, the Christmas Angel Tree is our most important fundraiser.

In only five years, more than 500+ children with Down syndrome and other special needs are HOME with their "forever families" this Christmas.

The vast majority of this funding comes from our Angel Tree Project each year!

Your donations and advocacy efforts turn the child on the left into the child on the right. *Just like that*. Money is the only thing keeping these children hidden away and languishing.

When you donate $35 or more, you will receive a beautiful photo ornament of your sponsored child to hang on your tree. This is a very special way to "share Christmas" with an orphaned child, and it's a very personal and meaningful GIFT IDEA for everyone on your list. Gift cards will be sent with the ornament to your intended recipient(s). These are great for friends and family, but also for teachers, therapists, caregivers, doctors, etc. Even if you do not celebrate Christmas, our gift cards make wonderful gifts for Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or any other seasonal celebration. International sponsors are welcome through Paypal.

To celebrate our 5th Anniversary, our goal for 2011 is to raise $500,000 (collectively) during this two month period. BE A WARRIOR for one child by committing to help raise $1000 or more for their adoption grant. Every penny you raise brings them one step closer to home.

We have the hardest working app designer there is. We are very proud to introduce to you our newest Reece's Rainbow app, the new Windows app!

If you have a Windows phone, please be sure to get the Reece's app!

Here are some features worthy of mention...

Out of our three apps, Android, iPhone/iPad and Windows, it quite possibly runs the smoothest on the Windows app.

The pictures show up brilliantly and there is a refresh button on the main screen so every time the app gets updated, it's instantly updated on the users phone .

There is an option inside the app under settings that allows the user to take screen shots within the app. So, if the user wants to share something on our blog or site, they can take a screen shot of what they are viewing and save it to the phone to be added in a message or email or whichever method the user is using to send it.

Also, Reece's is the only adoption app in the market!

As I mentioned previously, we have been so blessed to have a wonderful app developer come alongside us and offer to make these. We are more than impressed with how quickly he set them up, as well!

Don't forget our Android app, and our iPhone/iPod/iPad app!

Our developer also has another iphone/android app for parents with children with Down syndrome that we featured HERE. Graci's story includes stories and resources for parents who have a child with Down syndrome.

As One We Can :: The Chirch Family

This week I'd like you to meet the Chirch family. They're in the process of adopting a beautiful little lady named Kaylee. Alyssa and Derek Chirch have three children. Samantha who is 16, Cade, 14 and Logan, 10. Derek works for a Christian school as an Administrator and Athletic Director and Alyssa is a Case Manager for a company advocating for people with special needs. Both Derek and Alyssa had God preparing them for their hearts to be opened to adoption even before they met. This is their first adoption, but are already prepared to have their hearts ready to receive the other children with which God will grow their family through more adoptions. They're excited to have Kaylee home and are in the process of waiting for a travel date.

They've done a lot of fundraising! They still have some fundraisers going on now and right now they also have a matching grant that goes till Oct. 27. Are You a Home Educator? This Will Interest You!

Many in the Reece's Rainbow family are also home educators (homeschoolers) so this may be of some interest to you!

Being one of those home educating families now, when we were approached for permission to put a banner for Reece's Rainbow on their NEW Homeschool Markets web site, I was very interested to see it.

I love the idea of this! I asked them to explain to me so I could share it with you.

Home School Markets (HSM) was started by two parenting families as a resource for Home School families. It is also a home based and online business for us.

The model is very simple and HSM offers six different categories:

New and Used -Where new (unopened or unused) and used curriculum can be sold.

Supporting Materials -Where equipment can be listed for sale. Examples of items that can be listed here include microscopes, sports equipment, learning games, etc.

Market -The Market is set up for businesses that are not home based, but that cater to home school families. We envision this as the location for products, services and offers to home schools.

Home Crafted -This is the place for home made items to be sold and small home based businesses to advertise.

Swap -The Swap category is for the more adventurous to make a trade with one another.

Wanted -Wanted is the category for all desired items. This could be anything from support for fund raising to specific curriculum and supplies.

Our site has a search option by age group, subject and other variables. Patrons can use Paypal, Credit Cards through Paypal, or can arrange direct contacts and sales with one another.

Registration is simple and straightforward and allows a home school mom or dad to list items going forward.

Right now, all listings are free until February 2012. We may extend that deadline for free listings, but for now, that is the target. From then on, any listing is forty-five cents -without regard to the price. Any curriculum item (New and Used) listed under $3.00 is free -no charge for the listing from us.

Finally, we support causes such as Reece's Rainbow by banner advertising the respective "missions" at no cost. We feel that it is important and an obligation to spread the word about work that change children's lives world-wide.

a helping hand :: Milestones That Matter

This is the third post by from BabySignLanguage.com in our 'a helping hand' series, giving you a tool that can help you improve communication with our children with Down syndrome and special needs.

MilestonesThat Matter-How BSL Can Help You Get There

For a child,every stepping-stone is a milestone. Some children leap across these stones soquickly that we fail to notice and celebrate. Others may take longer. We mustnever forget that the achievement of reaching a milestone is of equalproportion regardless of the speed. A milestone is always a good reason tocelebrate.

Children with Downsyndrome may not say their first words until age 2 or 3, but there are tons ofmilestones in between that parents and caregivers can encourage. For example,playing peek-a-boo teaches turn-taking, and this is lots of fun for parents andkids alike!

Listening tomusic is a way to work on auditory skills. Yes, there are plenty of pre-verbalskills to concur before those first words.

More and more parents of children with Downsyndrome are teaching baby sign language as a way to encourage speechdevelopment. The benefits that are available to every child exposed to gesturalcommunication are of even greater benefit to parents and children who wouldhave found themselves in a lengthier-than-usual communication gap. Late talkerdoesn’t have to translate to an extended period of frustration because baby andparents can get their messages across through other avenues other than speech.

Combining sign language with the verbalword encourages speech development. The cycle for a child with Down syndromemay look something like this:

Parentsintroduce sign language early and often. They useit in addition to traditional spoken word. This can be a frustrating stagebecause who wouldn’t love to see instant results! Start early and hang inthere. Encourage extended family and friends to learn sign language, too. Findother parents working on these same skills; they can be an excellent resourcefor questions and support.

The childbegins to comprehend the sign(s). Receptivelanguage skills are not the same challenge as the expressive language skills;this is part of the reason this area develops first. Also, Children with DS aremore apt to be visual learners, so sign language caters that much more to theirlearning experience. For many, this comprehension of sign language will helpease frustrations because there is understanding taking place even if thecommunication cannot yet be returned. For example, a parent may ask and sign“are you hungry?” Even though the child doesn’t say or sign a response, manyparents can read an interest versus dis-interest reaction.

Children willstart using the signs for emphasis or clarification. This doesn’t happen right away. When parents know their child willlikely have a speech delay or struggle with articulation, the non-verbal cuesare almost always introduced early and therefore it takes longer before we seethose signs returned. It is rewarding when we see the signs enter theirvocabulary and a relief to understand their wants and needs. The work is worthit!

Usage: The potty sign is tremendously useful in potty training your baby. Using the sign, you can train babies earlier than if you had to wait until they could speak the word. As you potty train your baby, teach them to make the sign to get you to put them on the potty.

Once signing, your child is making progresson everything from their fine motor skills, to verbal language development.They are also able to express their wants and bond that much deeper with theirfamily. Most words that are signed are eventually spoken and develop asspontaneous speech.

Usage: What could be sweeter than exchanging I love you with your baby.

Every child is different and this is justas true for children with Down syndrome. Your child will develop at his or herown pace and while some parents may look at the race to milestones as a sprint,life is best lived as a marathon.

Just as with Down syndrome, FAS and FAE have a wide variation of effects on each child, both medically, physically, and cognitively. This is typically dependent on how long during the pregnancy the mother consumed alcohol, and of course, how much. There is no way to know this ahead of time.
Regrettably, this orphanage is one of the poorer ones, with very little outside aid and very little hope. All of the children are tiny and undernourished. These children are immediately transferred at 4, and have little chance of survival where they are sent. All of our waiting children need families, but these have a critical need. Please consider one of these children soon!!

What a dear little boy — look how he's holding his stuffed friends closely. :)

Shawn is also listed as having a "minimal mitral prolapse" which is a heart-condition, but typically a mild condition, and often outgrown without any intervention. However, an adopting family would want to follow up with a cardiologist once he is home. He also has "mild hypermetropia" which means he is mildly far-sighted (and likely will outgrow as he grows older).

HELP!!! I HAVE ALREADY BEEN TRANSFERRED!!
Look at this darling little cupie doll! Mila was born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, and several complications from that exposure. Her medical records indicate cleft palate, oval window (heart condition), strabismus, and microcephaly (all common symptoms of this condition). But she is also friendly and happy, loves attention, and desperately needs a loving family.
From an adoptive family who visited with her in August 2010: "She was in a group with two other children. The two little boys were in the playpen. She was free to wander but she stayed in the little area for her group. When she would get a little too close to us, her caregiver would say something quietly and she would turn around and return to her group. I was impressed with her ability to follow instructions."
"The afternoon before, I spied her playing and babbling by herself in a shady spot by the front drive. I did not see more than a few children with her. I have seen her playing with others on other days though. Truthfully, there are children here who are probably not going to fit in with a typical family. I don't see Mila as one of those children. She is probably the height of a three year old but wirey, thin, skinny!"

Elena is a beautiful little girl born with CP. She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and a gorgeous smile and glow about her. She struggles the most with her left-side limbs, is considered significantly delayed, and also has partial atrophy of the visual nerves.

Elena is still a favorite of the orphanage and will SO benefit from having a loving family encourage and cherish her! Even being visually impaired, she deserves the opportunity to "see" her world outside the four walls of this orphanage and her crib!

Photo dated Feb 2010. Kenneth is a blonde haired, blue eyed cutie who was born with FAS. Kenneth does have some spasticity on his left side, and will greatly benefit from therapy and a loving family to encourage him! He is diagnosed with hydrocephaly, but this is a result of the FAS. He is not in need of a shunt to correct (the doctors say).
As you can see from this updated picture, Kenneth is doing GREAT! He wants a mama and papa of his own.

SIGNIFICANT RISK, PLEASE ADOPT ME SOON!! SCHEDULED FOR TRANSFER IN AUGUST!!

Miss Alicia is a beautiful little girl who needs a loving family. Her other two typically developing sisters were adopted by other families already.

Alicia was born to an HIV+ mother, and is HIV+ herself. She has also has significant delays and challenges associated with her FAS. (fetal alcohol syndrome). We are waiting to learn if she has any medical complications, but she is cognitively delayed and does show signs of attention deficit and hyperactivity. Alicia will do best where she can be the focus of attention and have her Daddy wrapped around her finger Alicia has SO much potential, and deserves a family as much as her other sisters do. I know there is a family out there for this little girl! She is facing the mental institution soon, but has grown up in a loving and well kept orphanage so far. A committed family now can prevent her transfer!

From an adoptive family who visited with her in July 2010: " Alicia absolutely LOVES one on one attention. she is front and center if you are handing out kisses and hugs. You can see she wants a Mama all her own, and it will be so hard on her to have her sister leave to be adopted, as her other sister was already adopted. (Their mother is deceased, most likely from AIDS). She likes to swing. She loved to lay her head in my lap while we were both on the bench swing and I would stroke her hair. The other kids didnt like to share my attention but Alicia was ok with it. I could have two in my lap and she didn't mind, but she didnt like being crowded out when the other child decided they wanted me all to themselves. She likes sensory input. She kept rubbing her arm across my husband's unshaved face and shivering and making the funniest face and then immediately doing it again. She likes to go down the slide again and again. She really likes to be in the middle of whatever is going on, and be included. But often she is excluded, even by attendants. For Alicia it's a vicious circle. She is delayed, she gets frustrated, they don't let her do things the others are doing, she gets more delayed and more frustrated. She is VERY VERY SWEET AND LOVING. She needs a family that has only a couple kids, not ten. She has HIV. If you want a little girl to hug and kiss, she will GLADLY take all the hugs and kisses you can hand out. She isn't afraid of men but isn't inappropriate either. I saw her with my husband as well as another couple of young men who visit regularly. Alicia is on the small side, like maybe size 4. The children are valued and loved at this orphanage. The grounds are visually stimulating and the kids get outside for a couple hours in the morning as well as afternoon. They even go swimming in the pool they have there. Hope someone will come for Alicia very soon!" Alicia is toilet-trained and able to say when she needs to use the restroom. She has tremendous potential if someone would take her home and love her!

Alex is a handsome young man who is already living in the mental institution. Despite this he has a wonderful, open, and affectionate personality. His medical records indicate congenital hydrocephaly, but he does not appear "hydrocephalic". Alex is able to walk with assistance, and will truly blossom with family support and therapy.

As with all children living in these difficult conditions, this child's cognitive development has regressed significantly since he/she was younger. It is of crucial importance that any family considering the adoption of an older child from the mental institution setting be well prepared for what to expect with regards to how the neglect and lack of adequate medical care and nourishment has affected this child. These children all have TREMENDOUS potential for improvement, and deserve to have a life outside these four walls.

These children are truly living on borrowed time, and families should be home study approved before an official commitment can be made for this child.

Dariya then walked up and she and Lorie held hands for a bit. When we walked away we said paka and she smiled and waved. Bless her, she needs a family. We learned that this baby house is up to 6 for spec needs so she probably will be here until next year since she just turned 6. Her feet turned in, she would definitely benefit from having braces and PT. The caregiver told us she didn't speak but, she understood us and was sweet."

I can't tell you his eye color because he down-right refused to look at me, but those blonde curls sure were cute!"

Chrystyna is a beautiful, brown haired, brown eyed girl who deserves a chance at a better life! Her official orphanage papers say she has developmental delays/difficulties from birth, but nothing more specific than that. It is possible she has FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome). Her biological mother was deprived her parental rights in December 2004, and the biological father is not known. Chrystyna has so much potential, and will be a precious gift to any family who adopts her.
Chrystyna is already living in an institution, so we need a family for her right away!
Chrystyna does have a sister, Karen.   Karen does not have any diagnosed special needs.   If you are interested in adopting both girls, you can do so, or Chrystyna is free to be adopted separately.   Please inquire!

UPDATE: God has been watching Chrystyna. She was recently transferred out of the institution into a wonderful facility, where they teach these children, work with them, and they appear very well cared for. The difference in the few girls who were transferred OUT of the institution is incredible!   Please give these girls a second chance for a loving family!
If you are unfamiliar with FAS, please spend some time researching this condition. Just as with Down syndrome, FAS and FAE have a wide variation of effects on each child, both medically, physically, and cognitively.   This is typically dependent on how long during the pregnancy the mother consumed alcohol, and of course, how much.   There is no way to know this ahead of time.

He is very friendly, funny, and talkative. He desperately seeks out attention. He was talking to my husband, and holding Zack's hand, which he then put on top of his head for Zack to rub his hair. He is extremely intelligent, and just precious! I brought him paper and crayons, and he drew me a flower "

Love this beautiful Pippi Longstocking! Julie is a sweet, quiet, but energetic, redhead with big blue eyes and freckles. When she was placed in an orphanage a few years ago, she did not want to speak. Now she expresses herself reasonably well, with an occasional stutter. She studies and recites well in her orphanage, but she is about 3 years behind her agemates. She controls her actions well, is calm, likes to work, draw and play with toys. She came to a 3-week summer camp in America and lived with a family, who thought she might have brain damage. Julie was very patient in adult company, played nicely by herself or with other kids, showed determination and stamina in learning how to ice skate mostly by herself, and loved the water park, descending the steepest, scariest slide with gusto. Julie has a sense of humor and a hearty laugh. With a good ear for language, she should be able to learn English just fine, once a loving family gives her that opportunity. She wants a family of her own.

This darling little boy is waiting for his forever family, and we believe his condition to be one called Saethre-Chotzen Syndrome.

Also known as Acrocephalosyndyldactyly Type Chotzen or Saethre-Chotzen Syndrome. Chotzen Syndrome is a dominant genetic condition. They have a tower-shaped skull (acrocephaly), fused fingers and/or toes (syndactyly), asymmetric face, widely spaced eyes, droopy eyelid (ptosis), strabismus (crossed or "wall-eyes"), beak-like nose, small upper jaw, and jutting out lower jaw (prognathism). Some plates in their skull close early. This is called craniosynostosis. Often people with Chotzen Syndrome are mildly hard of hearing. Sometimes they're unusually short. Occasionally the closing of the plates in their skull can compress their brain and slow their development. Sometimes boys with Chotzen Syndrome have undescended testicles.

The Lindquist Family and Ethan

I'd like you to meet Scott and Connie. They've been married nearly 24 years and have five daughters. Their youngest, Sophina, has changed their lives dramatically. She has Down Syndrome and had 6 procedures in her first six months of life, including open heart surgery and having a feeding tube being put in. She has taught their family what their priorities SHOULD be about-Jesus and people.
God has changed the whole family’s lives.

While looking at Reece's Rainbow's Waiting Children, praying for them and posting their faces on Facebook for others to see, Ethan kept coming up. The family had been praying about this and they finally agreed that a boy would be a blessing for their family! Scott, Connie and the girls cannot wait to see Ethan and Sophina together as they are fifteen days apart in age from each other! They are both special treasures from the Lord and the family can't wait to have Ethan in their arms. The Lord has already taught them SO MUCH through the process this far. They have already done their home study and they pray they get Ethan home before his birthday. They are completely living by faith that the Lord will take care of the needs that are there and would love for people to follow their story, pray for them daily and give as the Lord leads.

There is an Update to the Reece's Rainbow and Graci's World Apps. Please be sure to go download the lastest update from the App Store on your device. Go to the App Store from your iPhone, iPad or iTouch and download the new version in the Update section.

We have changed the look and feel a bit... including making it FULL SCREEN on the iPad! Other upgrades include:

Navigation Guide
When you open the App, you will notice that there is a different look, and now only one menu tab to use which looks like a compass

To move to the other sections within the App, touch the compass sign in the center bottom. The menu items will appear as shown below. Slide your finger to each of the menu items and lift your finger when you've made your selection. That menu items content now appears.

When you click into an item in a particular menu, you are given three menu items. Touching the first item (comment bubble) gives you the ability to add a comment to the post. Touching the third item (heart) will show that someone liked the post. Other users will open the post and see the number 2 in the heart if 2 people have touched the heart.

The Menu item in the middle (network sign) will pop up three options when touched. The first is email which allows you to forward the post to anyone of your choosing. The second allows you to post the link directly to your Facebook page and the third allows you to Tweet the post using your Twitter account!

Purpose for Update
Apple is in the process of releasing a new iOS which in our beta testing proved to be incompatible with the previous platform the Reece's and Graci's World Apps were using. Please be sure to get the new update quickly so that your service is not interrupted once the iOS is released.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please CLOSE your Reece's and Gracis Apps periodically in order to see the latest posts. We are working with our new Platform provider to discover why an autorefresh is not occuring. On a good note, closing your apps will help preserve battery time, as they wont be running in the backround when your phone is not being used.

To Close either of these Apps and other programs, press twice on the main menu button on your device (the round button). Pressing this button twice will show you which Apps are currently open on your device. Touch and hold the App that you want to close until the red minus sign appears in the upper left corner. Click on the red minus sign to close.

Well....we didn't win. :( But my goodness, what an achievement just to be there, in and of itself! Chosen as one of the top 36 charitable organizations in the COUNTRY, out of more than 3000 nominations, and the top 3 being recognized for their use of social media to spread the word. For Amy Brockhaus and April Swerdfeger to be in the same room with not only this year's nominees, but last year's winners and dozens of other globally recognized visionary charitable leaders....folks just like us who live in service to others. Wow.

Every single one of those nominees deserved to win...their organizations and efforts deserved to be recognized...the people they serve deserved that spotlight for awareness.

Even without an acceptance speech, we have a message to share with everyone who voted for us and those who know nothing about us. “Reece’s Rainbow was founded in 2006 with only 5 known orphans with Down syndrome in Ukraine. In only 5 years, and through the exclusive use of social media and internet efforts, Reece’s Rainbow has raised more than $2.5 million in adoption grants and found “forever families” for more than 500 orphans with Down syndrome and other special needs from 26 countries the world.

With a nearly 90% prenatal abortion rate of babies with Down syndrome here in the US, Reece’s Rainbow is honored to serve those children blessed enough to be born. We have grown from a grassroots “it doesn’t have to be this way” idea to a true human rights movement as a direct result of unwavering commitment and the availability of social media to aid us in getting the message out. Be still my heart, is that a dimple?!

As of February 2011:

Saul's thyroid was tested recently, and was normal. Though his heart problem has been improving and no surgical intervention has been required, regular follow-up will still be necessary. His next cardiology appointment will be in February 2012.

His health condition is stable, however he has not grown much (height or weight) recently, and he is still about the 3rd percentile on the growth chart.

Have you been to the new Reece's Rainbow forum? Besides being completely branded 'RR' it is completely ours. That means that all of our advocates and family posts stay with us... we don't have to worry about a forum closing and losing all of our posts and helpful information.

It also means that we don't have to have ads from other forums that, as we've seen, are not the sort of thing we want on our forum.

If you were on our yahoo group or on the yuku forum it is very easy to make the switch over. In fact, if you were on yuku, you are automatically on the new one. If you had a space in your user name, it will have converted to a '-' in between but otherwise all of our former users are on the new forum!

The Preston family and their son Nathaniel

Matt and Tammy have 3 daughter's and all are excited about their first addition to their family through adoption. Little Nathaniel is a beautiful 9 month old boy, who has hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus is sometime called "water on the brain". Treatment of hydrocephalus involves the insertion of a shunt to let the excess fluid exit and relieve the pressure on the brain. Their intent is to adopt him and have the necessary shunt placed as soon he arrives in the United States. They've submitted their dossier and are now waiting for their travel date.

Amanda and David just sent their dossier in for Andriy. It's should be in country on Tuesday..THIS TUESDAY.
